Happy Autumn Days to all our District 7850 members and beyond! I walk out in this glorious weather and smell what can only be described as a MacIntosh Morning! Crisp air and the smell of apples, leaves, and the sound of geese flying south. Who told them it was time to go? I waited until September to start my club visits, and I am glad that I did! I am meeting clubs at their vibrant best. Am I having fun? Yes indeed! Many of our clubs have already started adding the 5th bullet in our Rotary test: Is it Fun? I love our District team. They support me, so I can support our clubs and especially our presidents. If you have been a club president, and enjoyed guiding your club through a great year, I hope you will consider a district position. We are a little like mountain climbers – those who reach the top help those coming up. That is Rotary! Our next District Governor to follow Luc (it would be for 2026-2027) is out there somewhere. Bonnes journées d'automne à tous nos membres du District 7850 et au-delà ! Je sors par ce temps magnifique , et je sens ce qui ne peut être décrit que , comme un matin MacIntosh ! L'air pur et l'odeur des pommes, des feuilles et le bruit des oies ,volant vers le sud. Qui leur a dit qu'il était temps de partir ? J'ai attendu septembre pour commencer mes visites , et je suis contente de l'avoir fait ! Je rencontre des clubs à leur meilleur. Est-ce que je m'amuse ? Oui en effet! Beaucoup de nos clubs ont déjà commencé à ajouter la cinquième puce de notre test du Rotary : Avons-nous du plaisir ?
J'aime notre équipe de district. Ils me supportent pour que je puisse soutenir nos clubs et spécialement nos présidents. Si vous avez été président de club et que vous avez aimé guider votre club tout au long d'une excellente année, j'espère que vous envisagerez un poste au niveau du district. Nous sommes un peu comme des alpinistes : ceux qui arrivent au sommet aident ceux qui montent.
C'est ça le Rotary ! Notre prochain gouverneur de district qui succédera à Luc (ce serait pour 2026-2027) est quelque part. C'est peut-être toi ?

September Highlights
Voici quelques-uns de mes faits saillants de septembre jusqu’à présent :
September 7th – my first club visit was at the Lebanon, NH Rotary Club. I had met many of them through the visioning process we did last year. It was great to spend time with these friends and spread the Rotary message of taking care and creating hope in the world.
September 9th – I joined our multi-district President Elect Training Seminar (PETS) planning team. Please put NE PETS on your calendar if you are a president elect (PE): March 7-9, 2024, at the Marriot in Newton, MA. Your clubs have already paid for your PE to attend – and it is a great way to meet and share with Rotarians around New England. You can find out more at www.rotarynepets.org. Please tell our DGE Kelly Drew the name and contact information for your PE so that she is able to start supporting them before their president year. kelly@ladrew.com.
September 11th – I celebrated Tom Mees’ 50th Rotary year at the Yankee Smokehouse in West Ossipee, NH. Way to go, Tom! You are an inspiration to us all!
September 12th – My first attempt at giving my talk in French! Sherbrooke, QC – you are awesome! Thank you for being patient with me and very understanding. We did have a good time! If you want to know how to hold a successful hybrid meeting, ask these folks. They have a great system. By the way, I am looking forward to their Wine and Cheese fundraiser on May 4th up in Sherbrooke. DGN Luc showed me around the town so that I could see the bookshop the club runs, the 100th anniversary gift of a lovely monument to celebrate water (NEBU – the Abenaki name for water- see the photo).
September 19th – I had lunch with the Newport, VT Rotary Club. What a lovely venue looking out over Memphremagog with those large picture windows at the Eastside
Restaurant. Such a lot is going on up there in northern Vermont! The duck race is coming up and I understand there is quite a party preceding that. So many great projects, including their basketball tournament this spring.
September 20th – I joined the Lyndonville, VT Rotary Club for a delicious lunch prepared by some ladies from the church where they meet. We had a great time, and lots of important questions. Membership was a large part of this discussion. We are all wondering what the magic sauce is for membership. Well – that is central to my message. We take good care of each other, our families, our communities, and our world. People see us, we invite them to join us – but it is all about the club experience. Here is a great graphic that our Membership Chair, Eric Denu sent for me to share (right).
7 septembre – ma première visite au club a eu lieu au Lebanon, NH Rotary Club. J'en avais rencontré beaucoup au cours du processus de visualisation que nous avons mené l'année dernière. C'était formidable de passer du temps avec ces amis et de diffuser le message du Rotary : prendre soin de nous et créer de l'espoir dans le monde.
9 septembre – J'ai rejoint notre équipe de planification du séminaire de formation des présidents élus (PETS) multi-districts. Veuillez inscrire NE PETS sur votre calendrier si vous êtes président élu (PE) : du 7 au 9 mars 2024, au Marriot de Newton, MA. 11 septembre – J'ai célébré le 50e anniversaire du Rotary , de Tom Mees au Yankee Smokehouse à West Ossipee, NH. Bravo, Tom ! Vous êtes une source d'inspiration pour nous tous!
12 septembre – Ma première tentative de donner mon exposé en français ! Sherbrooke, QC – vous êtes génial ! Merci d'avoir été patient avec moi et très compréhensif. Nous avons passé un bon moment ! Si vous voulez savoir comment organiser une réunion hybride réussie, demandez à ces personnes. Ils ont un excellent système. D'ailleurs, j'attends avec impatience leur collecte de fonds Vins et Fromages le 4 mai prochain à Sherbrooke. DGN Luc m'a fait visiter la ville pour que je puisse voir la librairie que tient le club, le cadeau du 100e anniversaire d'un joli monument pour célébrer l'eau (NEBU – le nom abénakis de l'eau – voir la photo).
19 septembre – J'ai dîné avec le Newport, VT Rotary Club. Quel bel endroit avec vue sur Memphrémagog avec ces grandes baies vitrées de l'Eastside
Restaurant. Il se passe tellement de choses là-bas, dans le nord du Vermont ! La course aux canards approche et je crois comprendre qu'il y a toute une fête avant cela. Autant de beaux projets, dont leur tournoi de basket ce printemps.
20 septembre – J'ai rejoint le Rotary Club de Lyndonville, VT, pour un délicieux dîné préparé par des dames de l'église où elles se réunissent. Nous avons passé un très bon moment et avec beaucoup de questions importantes. L'adhésion a été une grande partie de cette discussion. Nous nous demandons tous quelle est la sauce magique pour devenir membre. Eh bien, c’est au cœur de mon message. Nous prenons bien soin les uns des autres, de nos familles, de nos communautés et de notre monde. Les gens nous voient, nous les invitons à nous rejoindre – mais il s’agit avant tout de l’expérience du club. Saturday, October 28, 2023 – Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) from 8-3 at St. Johnsbury Academy in St. Johnsbury, VT. This institute is like Rotary 101 for all new members, those interested in a leadership position, or those just curious about Rotary. There are 3 levels and one graduate seminar. You can take level one this October, and the 2nd level in the spring. Our sister district (7870) is sponsoring the spring RLI. Please sign up at www.rlinea.org. Our District is paying for the first 50 registrants, so sign up soon. Please check the box that says paying by check. Breakfast, break-food and lunch are all provided. It is an inspirational day not to miss.
Saturday, November 11, 2023– District Training Assembly – Vermont State University Lyndon Campus (was Lyndon State College). We will start with registration at 10:30 AM and the program begins at 11 AM. Information will be shared about RYLA, Youth Exchange, Membership, Public Relations and more. This is an excellent time to meet the District Leadership Team and meet up with other Rotarians from around our district. As we network together, we see the broader world of Rotary! The Foundation Dinner starts at 5 PM at the same place, so we hope you will stay and fellowship with your fellow district members and hear an inspirational message. The Executive Committee is working on bylaw revisions, so please watch for an email from me so that you can vote by club on these changes during our Assembly. Please plan on having at least one representative from your club at this assembly. The President may assign a representative to vote on behalf of the club.
Foundation Certification Trainings – evenings of Thursday, January 18 and Monday, February 12, 2024. These will be zoom meetings and are open to all Rotarians. If your club is interested in applying for District or Global Grants during the 2024-25 year, at least one member of your club must be certified at one of these evening meetings.
Save the date – April 13, 2024 – Spring District Assembly – also at VSU-Lyndon. Training for in-coming secretaries, treasurers, committee chairs, presidents and assistant governors.

C'est le moment idéal pour rencontrer l'équipe dirigeante du district et rencontrer d'autres Rotariens . En réseautant ensemble, nous voyons le monde plus large du Rotary ! Le dîner de fondation commence à 17 heures au même endroit, nous espérons donc que vous resterez et échangerez avec les autres membres du district et peut-être vous entendrez un message inspirant. Le comité exécutif travaille sur des révisions , des statuts, alors soyez attentif à mon e-mail afin que vous puissiez voter par club sur ces changements lors de notre Assemblée. Veuillez prévoir d'avoir au moins un représentant de votre club à cette assemblée. Le président peut désigner un représentant pour voter au nom du club.
Formations de certification Fondation – soirées du jeudi 18 janvier et du lundi 12 février 2024. Il s'agira de réunions Zoom et sont ouvertes à tous les Rotariens. Si votre club souhaite postuler pour des subventions de district ou mondiales au cours de l'année 2024-25, au moins un membre de votre club doit être certifié lors de l'une de ces réunions en soirée.
Réservez la date – 13 avril 2024 – Assemblée de district du printemps – également à VSU-Lyndon. Formation pour les nouveaux secrétaires, trésoriers, présidents de comités, présidents et gouverneurs adjoints.

Increasing our Impact
Is your club letting your community know about Rotary’s efforts to end polio? October 24th is End Polio Day. It is a great day to do some media releases about this amazing international effort.
Votre club informe-t-il votre communauté des efforts du Rotary pour mettre fin à la polio ? Le 24 octobre est la Journée pour mettre fin à la polio. C’est une excellente journée pour publier des communiqués de presse sur cet incroyable effort international.
The Executive committee has agreed to extend our contract with Yancy Red to do our social media outreach. You are also encouraged to like our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/search/top?q=rotary%20district%207850 and create posts about club activities.
If your club secured a grant last year with Courtney from Yancy Red, she has contacted the president to set up the rest of your allotted club instruction time. This is a way to teach all club members how to reach out to the community using that medium which is still a little new to some of us (Social Media).

Louisa and Kelly are working on a great day for all club members at our November 11 District Training assembly. Here is what Louisa says about that day:
Save the Date! November 11, 2023! There will be two District events on this date! We will be holding our District Training at the Lyndon Campus of Northern Vermont University and changing it to 10:30AM registration and 11AM start. This will allow us to go later in the afternoon. We hope you will stay for our District 7850 Foundation Celebration and dinner which will start at 5PM.
Our district training will have presentations on membership, youth programs and protection, public relations, and more! After a short break in the late afternoon, our foundation celebration will begin with hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar.
In addition to celebrating the 105th anniversary of Veterans Day, District 7850 will be celebrating projects around our district and honoring the donations made by District 7850 Rotarians. Joining us for our District Foundation Celebration will be Rotary Foundation Trustee Brenda Cressey. Brenda is a member of the Rotary Club of South Portland Cape Elizabeth in District 7780 and retired as CEO of Office Support Systems, a telecommunications business in Maine. Brenda served in several key roles for Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation and in 2018-2019 served as the first woman Rotary Foundation Trustee Chair. We are excited to have her join us for this celebration!

Louisa et Kelly préparent une excellente journée pour tous les membres du club lors de notre assemblée de formation de district du 11 novembre. Voici ce que Louisa dit de cette journée :
Réserve cette date! 11 novembre 2023 ! Il y aura deux événements de District à cette date ! Speaking of Adapting – our District participated in a Rotary Friendship Exchange to Scotland. They had an amazing time, and planning is underway for Turkey for the next trip! Dick Podelec is looking for the next coordinator of this program. If you love to travel and meet people all over the world, this may be the district position for you. Please contact Dick at dickpodolec@comcast.net if you want more information.
The trip started with attending the famous Edinburgh Royal Military Tattoo and touring Edinburgh Castle the following day.
The picture is from our orientation in Edinburgh, where we then met our Scottish hosts for the 12-day RFE.
The entire group was together to see the Rosslyn Chapel and attend a Rotary meeting in Penicuik. We had a tour of the Glen Kincie Distillery started originally by Scotsman Johnny Walker. We toured Loch Carron, the largest tartan weaving mill in the world followed by a tour of Abbotsford, the home of Sir Walter Scott. We also did a canal trip using a 30' lift of the unique Falkirk Wheel and saw the famous Kelpies.
Travelers spent several days seeing the local sights with their individual hosts. The scenery, rolling hills and vistas were spectacular throughout all Southern Scotland.

En parlant d'adaptation, notre district a participé à un échange d'amitié du Rotary en Écosse. Ils ont passé des moments formidables, et la planification est en cours pour le prochain voyage en Turquie ! Dick Podelec recherche le prochain coordinateur de ce programme. Le voyage a commencé par la participation au célèbre Edinburgh Royal Military Tattoo et par la visite du château d'Édimbourg le lendemain.
La photo provient de notre séance d'orientation à Édimbourg, où nous avons ensuite rencontré nos hôtes écossais pour le RFE de 12 jours.
Le groupe au complet était réuni pour visiter la chapelle de Rosslyn et assister à une réunion du Rotary à Penicuik. Nous avons visité la distillerie Glen Kincie, qui a été initié par l'Écossais Johnny Walker. Nous avons visité le Loch Carron, la plus grande usine de tissage de tartan au monde, suivie d'une visite d'Abbotsford, la maison de Sir Walter Scott.
