Summer is moving past us quickly, but your DG is having a great time. I hope all is well in your clubs, and that you are also finding time for lots of fun. Here is just a taste of what I have been doing this past month.
July 22nd, I represented our District at the Eastern States Student Exchange (ESSEX) Annual Meeting.
July 25th, we had a very successful virtual meeting with 30 of our presidents and assistant governors (AGs) attending.
July 29th, I went down to the Rotary House in Wallingford to attend the welcome home of our RotorXers (Returnees from Youth Exchange). Nickolas Homan, who just returned from Germany and is back in Burlington, and the others did an amazing job of helping our outbound students get ready for their year abroad. Our student from Hanover, Theo Cook, was there as well. Theo is now safely in Switzerland with his exchange family.

This year, our focus is on mental health. We want our clubs to be places where members feel welcome and needed. If you would like a speaker, consider one from NAMI (see their information below). I am also attaching a flyer you can use for your club about the In Our Own Voice presentations.
NAMI Vermont - the Vermont state chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness – is a statewide non-profit, grassroots volunteer organization of family members, friends, and individuals affected by mental illness. NAMI Vermont supports, educates, and advocates so that all communities, families, and individuals affected by mental illness or mental health challenges can build better lives. NAMI Vermont is offering a mental health presentation for Rotary clubs to schedule to learn about NAMI and gain insight into what it’s like to live with mental illness through their About NAMI and In Our Own Voice presentations. The audience is given a safe place to ask questions and gain understanding of an often-misunderstood topic. Through dialogue, we can change attitudes and challenge stigma. Like most nonprofits, the pandemic caused a drop in volunteerism, especially for those who have a personal connection with mental illness. Your help can rebuild and grow NAMI Vermont’s reach across Vermont to provide free mental health services for all.
If you are interested in scheduling a presentation, contact Emily Greene at program@namivt.org, or call their office at (802) 876-7949. For more information about NAMI Vermont and to get involved, visit https://namivt.org/
